ReflexologyWhat is Reflexology? Reflexology is an extremely effective complementary therapy whose origins can be traced back thousands of years to Egypt, India and China. Reflexology is based on the principle that all organs, glands and systems of the body have reflex points which terminate at the hands and feet. The reflexes are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body, thus, it becomes possible to treat the whole body through a reflexology treatment. The therapy itself involves having a light, but firm massage, usually to the soles and uppers of your feet. Having Reflexology is usually a wonderfully comfortable and very pleasant experience. The treatment is generally not ticklish and is suitable for all ages. Reflexology has been found to reduce stress and tension, relieve pain, improve bodily functions and generally restore the body to a better state, so improving physical and mental well being. Note: If there are personal/medical or cultural reasons why it is not desirable or possible for you to have the treatment performed on your feet, then hand reflexology can be given as an alternative and is an equally effective treatment. Main Benefits Reflexology is designed to help treat the person as a whole not just the prevailing symptoms of a presenting condition. Whilst Reflexology can treat nearly all health problems, it has been shown to be particularly effective in treating the following conditions:- Reflexology is an immensely relaxing experience and after completing a course of Reflexology, many clients continue to have regular treatments in order to maintain health and well being. Reflexology is not just recognized by those interested in alternative treatments and therapies. Many medical doctors and other healthcare professionals also recognize it as an effective therapeutic treatment. Some recommend it to their patients as a supplement to medical care. What happens on my 1st treatment session? In common with all health professionals and before you can receive any complementary treatment, it will be necessary for me to obtain details about your present and past health and lifestyle. This information helps me build a picture of your general condition, check for any contra indications, plan a treatment schedule and assess the progress/effectiveness of any treatment going forward. All information gathered will be treated in the strictest confidence. A normal Reflexology session lasts about an hour, though treatment times can be varied to suit individual circumstances and needs. You should allow for an extra 15 minutes on the first appointment in order to go through and complete the Health & Lifestyle Questionnaire. How many sessions will I need? Some clients may notice subtle changes after just one session, though typically more noticeable improvements are experienced after six sessions. After the initial session, I will discuss a suitable treatment plan with you and the number and frequency of treatments that I think will be required based on your presenting condition. IMPORTANT: Reflexology cannot claim to cure or diagnose illnesses or disease, nor can it be used to prescribe any type of medicine. The more severe the pain or illness, the more severe will be the necessary changes. These may involve breaking bad habits, or acquiring some new and better ones. Peter McWilliams | ||||||
